Demi-Pointe Shoes (introduced in Level 2B)

As dancers continue to develop and study ballet, we want families to understand what to expect in Level 2B and how our ballet program supports dancers who may eventually be interested in pointe. For dancers who are interested in eventually pursuing pointe shoes, we encourage the use of demi-pointe shoes in Level 2B.

Demi-pointe shoes are not required. However, we have found them to be a helpful training tool for dancers who are working toward pointe. They can help dancers develop strength, alignment, and body awareness while continuing to focus on proper ballet technique. Demi-pointe shoes are introduced in Level 2B and, for now, dancers who choose to purchase them will only wear them during Level 2B.

Dancers in our Level B classes need to have a baseline of ballet technique and strength. Our goal is to place each dancer in a class where they can be successful while also being appropriately challenged. Because every dancer develops differently, class placement may change as we observe dancers in class. Please wait until after your first couple of Level 2B classes before purchasing demi pointes to make sure your dancer’s placement will not change.

Pointe Is Not for Everyone—and That's Okay

Not every dancer wants pointe shoes, and that is completely okay. A dancer may have big dreams for their dancing that do not include pointe. Another dancer may work toward pointe, reach that goal, and later decide that pointe work isn't for them. Either way, dancers can continue to develop their ballet technique and progress through our A and B levels while dancing in ballet slippers. They simply would not participate in pointe classes.

Our Goal

At The Dance Connection, our goal is to support each dancer's individual goals and development while building a strong foundation in ballet. Pointe shoes are one possible part of a dancer's journey, but they are not the measure of a dancer's success. We want dance to be a positive influence in our dancers' lives—helping them develop confidence, strength, discipline, joy, and a lifelong appreciation for dance, regardless of the shoes they wear.
