Costume Information

At The Dance Connection, we believe in the power of connection. One way we create this is through our performances—where dancers connect to their roles, and their roles connect to the audience. Costumes play an important part in bringing these performances to life.

We’re mindful of both the value costumes add and the cost they represent for families. When possible, costumes are rented rather than purchased. For our Winter Semester performance, all classes rent costumes. However, for our Winter/Spring Semester performance costumes are either purchased or rented, depending on the class. Determinations are made at the beginning of the semester and will be communicated via email. 

Dancers enrolled in multiple classes benefit from our multi-class discount: each dancer pays a maximum of four costume purchases (then rentals). Additional costume fees are provided at a discount (if purchased), and waived if rented. (Audition fees include a costume rental, but are not included in the multi-class discount.) Payment plans can be made by emailing Colleen at colleen@tdanceconn.com.

Dress Rehearsal and Show Day Costumes

  • Rented Costumes

    • Please arrive in a leotard and tights. If you only perform a hip hop number please come dressed in a fitted tank top and fitted leggings/shorts.

    • Are checked out during dress rehearsal and/or performances.

    • Must be returned the day/night of your show.

    • Damaged or unreturned costumes will incur a replacement fee.

  • Purchased Costumes

    • Please arrive to dress rehearsals and performances in your costume.

  • Multiple Costumes

    • Please arrive in your nude leotard and tights. Any costume change requires you wear a nude leotard!

Care Tips

  • Hang costumes neatly in your closet.

  • Hang tutus upside down to help maintain shape.

  • To remove wrinkles, hang the tutu in the bathroom and let the steam gently relax the fabric a few days before dress rehearsal.

  • Fluff the tulle for best presentation.

  • Do not iron or wash any costume! This will damage specialty fabrics and embellishments.

Hair & Makeup

  • Typically hair needs to be pulled away from the face so it does not distract the dancer and the face can be seen by the audience. Find class=specific requests on the Closs Show Assignment link.

  • If there are different hair styles assigned, and your dancer does not do their own hair, please have them come in a bun.

  • Dancers are encouraged to wear stage makeup for both dress rehearsal and performances. For tips and guidance for younger dancers, visit Link for Make Up

Shoes & Tights

  • Bring appropriate dance shoes in good condition (no holes or tears).

  • Label all shoes with your dancer’s initials.
